What I Didn’t Expect to Learn at Fred Perry’s Vinyl Launch

Event date: 19th July 2025
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the launch event for the Fred Perry X Pro-Ject Record Deck at Fred Perry 1 Utama, and it turned out to be more than just a product launch — it was a quiet rediscovery.

I’ve bought so many Fred Perry shirts in the past (mostly for my exes, ironically), always drawn to how effortlessly clean and stylish they look on any guy. At the event, I tried on their most classic piece — the crisp white polo — but it was a bit too loose on me since they didn’t have it in women’s sizing. So I ended up picking the black and gold edition instead, and honestly, I’m so happy I did. It still carries that timeless Fred Perry charm, with a bold twist that feels more like me.

Later I found out that black wasn’t just aesthetic — it was a turning point in tennis fashion history, challenging the all-white tradition and adding a new edge to the sport. That hit differently.

One of the highlights of the day was chatting with Darren, who graciously took the time to walk me through the store. That’s when I discovered a small but meaningful section — the Amy Winehouse Foundation collection. I didn’t know Fred Perry had this collaboration, but learning about it genuinely moved me.

The collection is a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, whose legacy lives on through this partnership. The foundation, started by her family after her passing in 2011, supports young people dealing with addiction, substance abuse, and mental health struggles. 20% of proceeds from this collection go directly to the cause. To see a brand as classic and sharp as Fred Perry using fashion as a way to give back made me appreciate it on a whole new level.

Even from the moment I arrived, the garnet-colored popcorn they handed out gave such a warm, personal touch. The overall event was thoughtfully planned — organized by time slots to avoid crowds and allow each guest to really explore the story behind the launch.
And of course, the star of the show: the Fred Perry x Pro-Ject limited-edition vinyl player. A perfect fusion of timeless British style and high-end audio craftsmanship. It’s more than just a turntable — it’s a collector’s piece that plays music with soul.

I came expecting a product launch. I left with a story — about heritage, rebellion, music, and purpose.

Fred Perry, you’ve got me hooked.
